Update: 5.16 – Fishing Frenzy

Reading Time: 10 minutes

Fishing and Hacking are here, throughout the world, you will now find fishing nodes in the lakes and oceans as well as hacking nodes to obtain those rare hacking materials.

Rolled into this release is a major server upgrade which improves performance across the world.

We’ve rebuilt the tutorial dungeon to improve the experience for new players, as well as add new UI and UX to the dungeons making it clearer what upgrades effect which abilities.

We’re bringing some of the previous cosmetics into the store this release, as well as bringing SoulBits, into our events as rewards this weekend.

Features

  • Introduced three new hub locations: Everdune, Farpoint Rift, and Neo-Tilus. Each hub includes a vendor and a bank to enhance player convenience. [DES-1972]
  • Introducing new quests in the Neo-Tilus area, utilizing the new system for fishing nodes to enhance gameplay and exploration. [DES-1990]
    • A Pirate’s Life for Me
    • Time on the Line
    • Tales from the Sea
  • Introducing a new NPC vendor in Farpoint with updated UI and renamed recall discs to ‘Farpoint Recall’ for a more immersive experience. [DES-1978]
  • Introduced new fishing zones [ART-3204]
    • You can find fishing spots in Virelda, Seabreeze Pass, Neo-Tilus, and more.
    • This is the first of two fishing updates, where next update will bring additional fishing equipment and level/item locked nodes.
  • Introduced new hacking zones [ART-3204]
    • Hacking is now available within multiple overworld areas: Virelda, Clifftop Pass, Farpoint Rift, and more.
  • The Chieftain’s Desert Cloak now allows stacking of recall discs and has increased capacity for food items and stims/flasks, enhancing item management convenience. [DES-2055]
  • Added a HomeDisc corp rep to Virelda to allow players to set their home location. [DES-2076]
  • Introduced a new ‘Apartment Keypad’ icon to enhance the user interface and improve interaction with apartment content. [TECH-8907]
  • Reworked vendors to include new ‘packages’ defining their layouts, involving adjustments such as categorizing by location (e.g., Virelda, Arcadia) and limiting equipment and consumable offerings to promote chemistry crafting. [DES-1960]
  • Implemented a new animation sequence into the ‘Enter the Fray’ quest, enhancing the transition experience. [DES-1962]
  • Introduced a new ‘Treasure Magnet’ icon to enhance fishing by allowing players to collect NPCs’ lost items required for quests. This magical fishing tool will aid in retrieving quest items such as lost diaries or pocket watches, improving quest completion dynamics. [ART-3212]
  • Recolored the radar icon to a golden theme to create a ‘Treasure Radar’ for players to enhance their treasure hunting experience. [ART-3202]
  • Removed the secondary pop-up when interacting with chests to streamline the user experience. [TECH-8894]
  • Implemented a new system for mob and boss loot tables in dungeons, allowing for customizable drop tables per room. Players will encounter varying loot based on newly designated loot tables for mobs and bosses within each dungeon room. This enhances variability and rewards in dungeon runs. [DES-2078]
  • Gear stats are now correctly applied to movement speed modifiers, allowing players to experience movement speed boosts. [TECH-8878]

Specific abilities such as ‘Fortify’ and ‘Healing Pulse’ also see benefits from these skill level increases, providing more integrated gameplay dynamics. [TECH-8871]
  • Introducing a feature where the total number of interactions for fishing is tracked per user, to prevent multiple users from fishing the last node simultaneously and losing rewards. [TECH-8823]
  • Enhanced the Tag System UI to include glow effects on related abilities and detailed tooltips, improving the clarity of upgrades during gameplay. [TECH-8762]
  • Players can now click on quests in the ‘all quests visible’ interface to open the specific quest, improving navigation through quests. [TECH-8448]

Fishing nodes will visually represent multiple backend nodes, and will disappear after a set number of successful interactions, limiting rewards to the first successful catch for each remaining fish. • Introduced the Treasure Radar key item, an essential tool for treasure hunters, enhancing their ability to locate hidden treasures. [DES-2063]
  • Updated the multiplayer death screen to provide clearer messaging for players in a party. Now, the screen will display ‘Waiting to Respawn’ with the subtext ‘You will respawn at the end of the round if your party survives’ instead of ‘Try Again’, reducing confusion and discouraging premature departures from the game. [TECH-8811]
  • Added an apartment keypad to Farpoint Rift to increase accessibility to apartments. [TECH-8329]
  • Updated the end screen to provide a star-based scoring system to rate player performance and highlight ‘New Record’ achievements, making gameplay completion feel more rewarding. [TECH-8872]
  • Mobs have been updated to use backend loot tables for item drops, allowing different loot tables to be assigned per room in dungeons. This enhances item drop customization and simplifies the mob-loot table management process. [GAME-3765]

Improvements

  • Introduced a feature to hide objectives in non-boss rooms within the tutorial dungeon to enhance player immersion. Note that normal dungeons remain unaffected by this change. [TECH-8884]

  • Fixed an issue where Pip was not present in the first chest room of the ‘Dungeon Rescue’ quest, preventing players from progressing. [QA-2451]

  • Fixed an issue where dead players still had a visible glow and could pick up exp gems that were nearby. [TECH-8782]

  • Fixed an issue where the ability card sound effects would continuously loop after the first relic upgrade. [GAME-3848]

  • Fixed an issue where players were unable to complete the ‘Cracks in the Foundation’ quest due to missing quest NPCs and incorrect quest status updates. [DES-2053]

Balance Changes

  • Reduced the cost to open T2 chests from 200 Yoku to 125 Yoku to bring better balance between chest tiers. [FEATURE-457]
  • Updated food consumables to align with new cooking and farming progression, including the addition of preventative debuffs like Metabolic Shock for potions and Infused for elixirs. Enhancements to stamina regeneration buffs have been made, affecting items like cooked food and elixirs, ensuring continuity and better benefits from raw food consumption. [DES-1602]
  • Loot tables containing food have been adjusted in alignment with the new buff changes, ensuring players receive appropriate enhancements from consumables. [DES-2064]
  • Adjusted vendor prices for cooked food items to reflect new standardized fish fillet prices. Additionally, fish raw requirements have been reduced for several recipes: Fish sticks now require 3 raw fish instead of 5, fish tacos require 5 raw fish instead of 10, and fish burgers require 5 raw fish instead of 20. [DES-1926]
  • Increased the drop rate of Lunar Keys in T3 dungeons to improve accessibility for players attempting the Necro raid. This change aims to reduce the time required for players to obtain keys necessary for the Necro raid. [FEATURE-438]
  • Reduced the Hemlock foraging level requirement from 4 to 1 to make early foraging levels less dependent on Sunbloom. [DES-2056]

Consumables have undergone a fairly substantial rework which we’re aiming to use as a foundation for a much more coherent stats structure going forward. For a while consumables have been in a pretty inconsistent position where either completely ignoring them, or pre-buffing multiple food buffs to stack over 300% additional maximum health were both relevant in the same game space.

Consumables should feel meaningful and varied, where players choose which food and potions to use based on a variety of factors.

With this update, consumables are split into families of consumable type where you can only have one type active at a time (we introduced this already with Metabolic Shock).

You’ll find some new additions in here, along with some new movement speed modifying buffs intended for overworld use (however they can be used in combat if you’re brave enough).

Below you’ll find the new consumable buffs for reworked consumables:
